Spectators
An enthusiastic crowd makes all the different to the runners, so please give your support along the 10K course. There is plenty of space in Stafford town centre streets and in Victoria Park which is on the last mile of the course.
Spectators must stay behind the crowd barriers and not attempt to access or cross the course at key times. Certain areas are for runners only.
For Health and safety reasons the spectators are not allowed to cycle or run alongside the runners.
As far as reasonably practicable Freedom Leisure has a legal duty to protect all runners in the race. To conform to this legal obligation all runners must be aware of the following instructions:
PLEASE NOTE: that the Stafford 10K course closes between 12 noon and 12.30pm, which allows an average pace of approximately 8.5 minutes per kilometre. As all stewards stand down and road closures are lifted from 12 noon you are advised not to walk around the course. If you are still running after the closures are lifted please use the pavements where available.
Running on the road
All runners should always be aware of the following:
- Keep to the left-hand side of the road (unless otherwise instructed) and do not deviate from the official course as you may wander outside of the road closure zones.
- Follow any direction arrows [black arrow on a yellow sign] and temporary road traffic signs.
- Follow all instructions from police and stewards.
- Not all of the roads are closed, please be aware of moving traffic and other road or footpath users.
- Please stay on the footpaths in The Haybarn area at the 6km point.
- Be aware of road surfaces and conditions. These can vary due to wet/cold weather, resulting in slippery surfaces.
- Roads can be unpredictable due to uneven surfaces, speed humps, cambers and potholes.
- All runners are expected to wear appropriate footwear.

Race number
We want to remind you that this race is a non-profit event, and we strive to keep entry fees as low as possible to cover our infrastructure expenses. Unfortunately, we've recently learned that postage costs have increased significantly. As a result, we’ve decided not to mail out race numbers. Instead, you’ll need to pick up your race number at Victoria Park on Saturday, the 21st, the day before the race. You can also collect your number on race day, but to help minimise wait times, we encourage everyone to come by on Saturday. We’ll send out another email a week before the event with all the details on how to collect your number, including timings and location. We just wanted to give you a heads-up so you’re not left waiting for the mail.
Litter
Dispose of your litter responsibly. A cup disposal area has been provided shortly after the welfare station, along Beaconside.
First Aid
St John Ambulance Brigade will be on duty throughout the race. If you require first aid assistance either approach first aid personnel at the water station or one of the stewards on duty. Due to the nature of the route, first aid treatment will be provided as soon as possible. If it is an emergency an ambulance will be sent to the scene.
Headphones
The UK Athletics rule regarding the wearing of headphones in road races means that HEADPHONES WHICH GO INTO THE EAR OR COVER THE EAR CANNOT BE WORN DURING THIS RACE. Bone conducting headphones are permitted. Please note the race referee can disqualify runners they see wearing headphones in the ear or covering the ear.

Please don’t drop water cups on the pavement or road where they can be tripped over by other runners.
