“Training in the gym, I go almost every day - sometimes even twice by accident.”
Cleo, Emma, and Sam, who lives with dementia, have been preparing for the Everest Base Camp Trek Challenge. With Sam’s determination and the unwavering support of Cleo and Emma, the trio set out to make Sam’s dream a reality.
HOW THEY TRAINED AT THE STOUR CENTRE
To prepare for the physical demands of the trek, Cleo, Emma, and Sam trained at the Stour Centre, using the gym every day to build strength and stamina. Their routine focused on cardio and strengthening their legs and back to carry their backpacks on the journey. With the support of the Stour Centre, they were able to commit to their training, ensuring they were physically ready for the challenge ahead.
SUPPORTING THEM ON THEIR JOURNEY
The Stour Centre has been proud to support Cleo, Emma, and Sam as they prepared for this incredible journey. From the gym to the community spirit, we’ve watched them push through their challenges and achieve their goal, raising an incredible £24,092 for Age UK along the way. Reaching Everest Base Camp was an incredible achievement for them, and we are honoured to have been part of their journey.
THE CHALLENGE AND REWARD
The trek itself was no easy feat. From battling altitude sickness to feeling homesick, the journey pushed them all to their limits. However, the memories made along the way—especially the helicopter ride to Lukla and the warmth of the Nepalese people—left them with a profound sense of gratitude. Reaching Everest Base Camp was the ultimate reward, proving that with determination, support, and community, no challenge is too great.
